Essential Oils in the Home

AIR FILTERS OR PURIFIERS.

A few drops of oil can be added to the filter pad when all the original fragrance has been lost. Experiment with Pine Needle, Cypress or Lemon as good choices.

LINEN CUPBOARD OR DRAWERS.

Although most washing fabric softeners now have a fragrance you can get a nice effect by using oils of your choice. A few drops of Lavender or Geranium on a piece of paper towel which is then folded works well. They are particularly effective in linen drawers.

POMANDERS.

Much loved in Elizabethan times these fragrant items smell lovely in a wardrobe. Tie a cotton wool ball (with some essential oils in it ) in a small piece of fabric. Suspend in the wardrobe. Patchouli, Ho Wood and Lavender for a feminine aroma or a Bergamot and Sandalwood mix for men.

NATURAL WOOD SHAVINGS MOTH REPELLANTS.

Make some little bags with fabric and add some wood shavings or chips. Add whole cloves, some oil drops from Sandalwood, Peppermint and Camphor. When mixed, tie the bag and suspend in a wardrobe.

SHIRT DRAWERS.

A few drops of Patchouli on a paper towel under the lining paper adds a nice touch to the shirts.

ROOM EVAPORATORS.

A few drops of oil placed on a paper towel and left on top of a radiator provides an instant fragrant room. Light oils such as Lemon, Orange and geranium for freshness. Lavender for old world charm, Sandalwood and Patchouli for mystery and allure.

PERFUMED STATIONERY.

Add a few drops of your favourite oil mixture (perfume) on a piece of paper towel and put into your stationery box. In a few days all the notepaper should smell discretely.

INSECT REPELLENTS.

Little sachets of fabric or cotton wool can hold cloves citronella and eucalyptus.
